Winter Outerwear: Faux Fur Poncho

Isn’t this a fantastic photo?! ❤

That bright blue painted wall as a backdrop to me and my pup (Max) really came out great! Good eye –  Thanks Joel! ❤

You know what the worst part of winter is?  Seeing all the black parkas. :/

Don’t get me wrong – I’ve got a black parka too – it’s an essential to combatting Canadian Winters.

But since the weather has been pretty mild all of November, and these first few days of December, I’ve been experimenting with “alternatives to the parka”. 😀

Here’s what I came up with:furponcho1

I dunno about you, but wearing a single winter coat all winter long is just not my jam.

Living in a country where there’s typically 8-months of winter….a girl needs lotsa options for winter outerwear!  Click here and here and here for some of mine 🙂

This faux fur poncho does the trick on those “above 5 under 10 degree” weather days.

To keep me warm under this ‘alternative-to-the-parka’ is a long-sleeved black sweater.  With my head, neck and hands covered up, this faux fur sweater poncho kept me toasty warm.

Wanna know what I’m wearing?

The leopard pants are from Old Navy; black booties and green leather gloves are from Winners; the gorgeous hat from Pearls and Pockets on WQW; and of course the Faux Fur Poncho is from Obsessions, in the P.A.T.H. in downtown Toronto.

Fuchsia & Faux Furs

I’ve been doing my very best to avoid wearing ‘wintery’ things just yet, avoiding bulky sweaters and a giant winter coat at all costs.

That’s why I really loved this two-toned, short-sleeved, light-weight polka-dotted sweater from Reitmans.  I love me some colour, so I decided to go with bright bottoms and bright jewellery, keeping my shoes simple.IMG_5602

I finally got myself a haircut – waddya think of my new do?

These pics aren’t the best to show it off…as sadly the new cut went right into a furry hat, as it was quite cold this evening.

Since us Torontonians will have to endure Winter for, what will feel like 8-months of the year, I’m avoid wearing a proper winter coat for as long as I possibly can.  I went for this double-breasted button herringbone jacket instead.  For other looks in this jacket click here.

I also got to unveil my new leather gloves I picked up from the Danier Leather Friends n’ Family sale.  Mixing in expensive pieces with non-expensive pieces, to give me an overall sophisticated, business casual look.

Waddya think of this combo?

Winter Coats

Ok – Toronto weather this winter has been madness! From my window, I would wake up to lightly frosted window panes and snow-covered rooftops, and begin to think “Do I really have to wear winter boots today…le sigh” (that’s french for sigh).

Between freak ice storms, drops in temperatures to -40 by midday to a balmy +9 by the next day, it is clear that Toronto girls gotta have more than one winter coat in her closet. The biggest trick of all: How to stay warm, while still looking cute?parka1

For the past few years I’ve managed to score fantastic deals on winter coats by buying them during the Boxing Week sales right after Christmas. Last year I scored a lovely standard black Liz Claiborne parka from Yorkdale Mall’s Sears which has gotten me through the bulk of this winter. However, with the Sears closing in the Eaton Center, there have been phenomenal deals on outer wear – up to 60% off, and additional discounts if you use your Sears Card…..So I just HAD to check it out!

This is one of two winter coats I picked up at these sales this year. What I loved about this one is that it WASN’T black!

Being short, I find it challenging to find a winter coat that isn’t too long, yet provides enough length coverage for the booty. This one was perfect, warm, and light…not to mention the helpful pull-ties to help give your body shape cinching in the waist. It also has double pockets – large square button front ones (perfect for your iPhone) and slim hidden sides ones to slip your hands into without creating too much bulk to your overall look. Plus the severe fur hood totally won me over!
