Turban Chic

OK!!  Can we all take a moment and fawn over this amazing turban I found!!!

❤ ❤ ❤ ❤

Turbans are a popular item in the fashion world. Traditionally they’ve been worn by men of North African and Southeast Asia.

But nowadays these headwraps are becoming a fashion staple –   spotted on runways and street styles.

I try an avoid wearing black in the summer.

But since my hot pink leopard turban was the main focus of this outfit, a simple black cotton, knee-lenght tank dress seemed to be all I needed.

Belting it just added more shape and was a great way to pulling out  the browns of the leopard print.

Making this look an easy way to showcase my new found LOUD summer accessory.

NATURALLY I had to wear lipstick to match my turban 😛

Who am I kidding! This turban look is gonna become my signature look into the FALL too!

I’m on the hunt for these turbans in ever eff’ing colour I can…so I never have do to my hair every again!!!! 😀

How I Got The Look:

Dress, H&M; Sandals, Coach; Belt is super old; Turban, Clore Beauty

Maxis for Minis (like Me)

It is hot in the T.Dot!!

Summer weather is here, which means I’m looking for easy, comfortable, yet fashionable outfits to take me out-and-about to enjoy all the summer fun this city has to offer!

Being petite – short – wearing maxi dresses isn’t an easy task.  This is the main reason I don’t own too many of them.  When I *do* find one that I like, there’s usually an additional cost to whatever the tags …hello: shortening alterations. 😦  ANOTHER factor to me NOT wanting to buy them.

Lucky for me Forever21+ had this one is a gorgeous summer orange that really looked amazing against my skin tone.

And the price was right at $22!  BIG WIN!

This maxi dress is made from a stretch knit, light fabric.  With adjustable cami straps making it perfect for ladies who are short-waisted like me.

There’s an elasticized waist, which I covered up with an old belt to add some more interest to this simple frock.

And a ruffled flounce bodice adds to the neckline showcasing the girls nicely, without being too titty-citty-in-your-face about it 🙂

Now, it’s still hella long for me… but I managed to make it work for my petite height by simply knotting the frock off to the side.

Which gave the entire outfit a summer-goddess-drappy look.  Making this maxi work for minis … like me!!! 🙂

Do you like it?  Tell me what you think of the way I styled and made this maxi work in the comment section below.

How I Got The Look:

Orange ruffled maxi, Forever21+; Conagc cross-body purse, Shoe Co.; Earrings & Bracelets, Reitmans; Sandles, Coach; Cat-eyed sunnies, Ardene, Belt, super old

Special thank you shoutout to Erika for photo-taking! xo

Broad Lingerie [1/3]

With the weather warming up at hyper-speeds in Toronto and the CAD $ yet to improve, my need for finding over-the-shoulder-boulder-holders WITHOUT cross-boarder shopping was becoming an urgent priority. :/melons-jpeg

At the beginning of May, on the heels of me posting a Boobs & Bra-related rant post – click here for that –  She Does The City, an online ‘imperfect life guide for women” announced that there was a new lingerie boutique that had opened in Toronto specifically for those blessed in the chest!!!

❤ ❤ ❤

Could it be?  Have the stars and straps really aligned?  Could all my bra-blems be solved with the arrival of this much-needed local shop?

Only one way to find out! 😉

Broad Lingerie is a store dedicated to women who wear cup sizes DD and above.  Our aim is to make bras and swimwear accessible to fuller busted women by offering a smarty curated selection of basic and fashion styles sold at affordable pricing in a welcoming atmosphere.

What really struck me about this shop was the fact that those larger bra sizes that I was on the hunt weren’t all hidden in a backroom requiring a special request before they could be seen. 😮

Nope.  They were just hanging out there with all the rest of ’em… in all their glory awaiting to be perused, touched and even tried on without anyone’s assistance.

A shocking, yet refreshing approach rarely seen in my bra-shopping experience.

Fellow blogger and friend, Stef, did a great write-up of her experience with Broad Lingerie upon their store opening.

Checkout SassyPlus’ review of the shop here 🙂

Sam, the shop owner, provided me with a proper bra fitting, since every brand fits a little different.

Together we selected TWO new Boobie-Traps (ha!) to solve my biggest bra-related irritants:

1. the “back band ride-up” and 2. the “quad-boob + underwire poke” combo!

Stay tuned for a special Summer Outfit Bra-blem Solved series THIS  week where I’ll be featuring the Broad Lingerie fixes for some of those “difficult summer necklines”! 😉

Smart Set

We’re mid-September, but instead of layers-upon-layers to keep us warm, the weather is keeping us in summer dresses!

And I’m loving it!!! 😀

Like this cutie-pie floral one I picked for $10!!!!!!  From a little shop called Smart Set, maybe you’ve heard of it?

Smart Set recently had a CLOSING sale.

The Montreal-based retailer said it will shut 107 Smart Set stores over the next 12 to 18 months, including 31 by year end or early next year.  Curious as to why, click here.

Only 31 of the locations will be closed completely. The remaining 76 will be converted to other company banners, which include Reitmans, Penningtons, Addition Elle and RW&Co., as well as Thyme maternity stores.

When I was in highschool, this was a shop I’d visit often.  But I don’t think I step in one until a few weeks ago, when I saw the closing signs while I was on my lunch downtown.  FullSizeRender-19

Smart Set didn’t carry a plus-size line.  So I was very surprised at finding an XL fit me.

What I really liked about this dress was the criss-cross deep-v back…
FullSizeRender-17

If I had a longer torso, you’d be able to see how the peek-a-boo criss-cross action should work. But for $10, it was coming home with me for sure…and my short-waisted self was gonna wear it anyway!!! 🙂

Oh, the hat … picked it up from Public Butter, on WQW. Click here for other looks in this hat 🙂

Were you a Smart Set fan?  Are you sad about the news that Smart Set having closed?

Mixing B & W Patterns

Summer sales are everywhere friends!  So run out and get your shopping on!

Found this black n’ white tiki crop top at Reitmans on sale + 50% off the sale price…so it was basically free!
Staying in the same color family is the easiest way to mix patterns in your outfits.  You can use contrasting colors, as long as the prints have a color in common.

Mixing black n’ white is the easiest I think!

I added pops of colour with my accessories instead:  with my yellow earrings & necklace set and with my aqua-teal purse and sandals.

Contrary to O’Magazine’s “advice” (insert eyeroll emoji here) … me and my plus sized non-flat belly having self decided to rock this tiki top is a crop top, pairing it with a horizontal stripped maxi skirt…displaying a visible belly outline.

Oh yeah.  I’m breaking all kinds of mainstream fashion ‘rules’ with this outfit of the day friends  But I think I look fierce! 🙂After several weeks of enjoying my new angled bob haircut, it was getting kinda shaggy and loosing its shape.

So that evening, I chopped it off again!!!

Tah-dah!!! The short angled bob is here for say for a little while longer 🙂

And then decided to check out the fab 3D Toronto sign that’s been set up at City Hall for the PanAm Games….for some photo ops.  Finally!

How I Got The Look:

Stripped maxi skirt and Tiki crop top, Reitmans – for other looks click here

Cat-eye sunnies, Ardene…..Aqua purse, Aldo ….. Aqua sandals, Betula for Birkenstock

Statement necklace and earring set – for other looks click here

Graphic Tiki

20140627-223223-81143764.jpg

Nothing screams summertime like tiki prints!

I picked up this graphic tiki dress from Forever21 recently — with full intentions on saving it for the Toronto Vintage Society’s annual Tiki Party this August. (Check it out this year friends….super fun times…add it to your summertime fun calendar!)  😉

Buuuuut I couldn’t wait!

Since my toes are a bit of a disaster and badly in need of a pedicure… I pulled the tags off this sucker and paired it with my black high-tops that I’ve been dying to break in since my Cross-Boarder Shopping Extravaganza .20140627-223228-81148041.jpg

This dress (in 2x) was a bit big on me – the length and the shoulder weren’t the best fit, plus turned out that all-day wear made the neckline of this cotton dress pretty droopy & wide.  Not cute.

But since these pictures, I’ve put it in the washer/dryer and am happy to report it’s a much better fit and has shortened up nicely.  HAZZA! 🙂

Farewell lovely cat-eyed sunnies.  Sadly, I’ve since misplaced these gorgeous sunglasses…sigh.  Ya’ll know what that means….an excuse to buy new ones!!!! 🙂

How I Got The Look:

Graphic button up Tiki dress, Forever21+ (Eaton Ctr); Black hi-top platform kicks, Torrid (Walden Gallery, Buffalo); Vintage Cat-eyed Sunglasses, The Public Butter; Grey cross-body purse, Michael Kors

Black Summer Prints

I usually try and avoid wearing too much black … especially in the summer.  But there are a number of fun black-summertime-prints that I just couldn’t resist!

This hi-lo maxi dress (Target) has been with me for a few summers now – don’t look too closely, as you’ll see the black bits fading due to wash and wears.  It’s one of my easy-peasy-favourite pieces.

20140615-191242-69162928.jpg

Being petite (short) the train of this dress does sometimes cause me  trouble.  I’ve been known to trip up the stairs in this dress and also had a horrible experience with an escalator that nearly ended this dress’ life!  Luckily, I managed to rescue and repair it and keep it among my summertime wardrobe still 🙂

20140615-191246-69166746.jpg

Since the dress has a giant pattern with solid black boarders, I added a pops of colour with my coral purse (Aldo) and bright green stoned earrings (Stella & Dot), plus my stroppy gold & white sandals (Le Chateau) plus my vintage cat-eye sunnies to keep the looks casual for weekend wear of errands and city roaming.
