Fall Double Feature: Mad for Plaid

Friday!  FriDAY!  FRIDAY!

We’ve made it through yet another workweek friends…and have gotten to nearly a week’s worth of Fall Fashion trends in my special Double Feature  collaboration series with Cassie from Style Cassentials.

We’re discussing fall trends this week – if you missed any of my previous posts I’ve list them at the end of this one…so you can get yourself caught up 🙂

Today we are Mad for Plaid!

Proofs-19

I just love the extra large collar of this black sweater.  The details like the single collar button and the cable knitting down the front of the sweater, being different than the arms and back of this piece, add a bit more flare to this office-all-business look.

Proofs-20If you’ve been following this Fall Double Feature series….you’ll notice how many of these trends are overlapping.  Like this one..combining Sweater Glamour and with Plaid.

This sangria deep red colour is popping up all over in Fall trends this season.  Which is lucky for me…as these adorable red booties have not gotten enough showtime in my office, nor has this glossy alligator purse. 🙂

How I Got The Look:

Long pencil skirt from LauraPetite; Black waffled collared sweater from Sears; Sangria red booties from NineWest; Sangria red alligator purse from Elmwood Spa  (yes…they occasionally have purses, accessories and footwear for sale near the exit)

Profs II-05

Cassie chose to showcase a black and white thin glen plaid pattern in both a blazer option and sheer shirt.  See how many of these Fall trends we’ve been talking about all week can easily  overlap each other and totally work!!!   Love how she’s incorporating Blooms on Black with the Mad for Plaid trend in her blazer look.  Head over to Style Cassentials for all the details on how Cassie has styled the trends.  Or visit her Facebook page here.

Fall Double Feature: Blue Hues

Hi Friends!!  Today is actually MY BIRTHDAY!!!

🙂

Yep, I’m a September baby – woot! woot!

10574445_10152561620627696_6014435842331686071_n

I’ve gotta admit …. this year I’m feeling a bit of the birthday blues … and NOT in a sad, depressing kinda way 😉

Have you noticed many shades of blue have been incorporated into Fall Runway Shows and magazines lately?   Blues are often a very flattering colour on every skin tone and silhouette.   With almost every shade of blue out there this season …Today we are talking about: Blue Hues!

I hope you’ve been following my series in collaboration with Cassie from Style Cassentials.   We’re discussing fall trends this week – if you missed any of my previous posts I’ll list them at the end of this one…so you can get yourself caught up 🙂

Profs II-31

This gorgeous royal blue & white Nouveau bodycon dress was sent to me by a delightful online boutique called VoluptousGirlz … and as you can see, it fit me like a golve!

Profs II-26The length of this dress is perfect …giving me a professional look from the front, with the helpful pattern distracting from my tummy.  And then when I turn around – BAM!

Profs II-27

….Super sexy deep-v in the back!

I have to admit …when I received this dress I was a bit nervous of how low the deep-v really was.  There was no way I was going braless!

I found by wearing a thin white cami underneath not only did it solve the hide-the-bra issue, but also created more smoothness for the rest of the dress to lay flater against my body overall.

Profs II-29 How I Got The Look:

The Nouveau dress from VoluptuousGirlz Boutique; white & gold bib + gold drop earrings  from Aldo Accessories; glossy grey pumps from Hudson Bay Co.; vintage bracelets from spring’s Toronto Vintage Clothing Show; and finally the purse – I cannot remember friends, sorry.

Profs II-28From all of the birthday promotions from my favourite stores filling up my inbox all month long, it is clear that blues are a definite haute colour this Fall.   How are you going to rock the blue hues from your closets this Fall?  Tell me all about your plans in the comment section below…

Fall Double Feature: Blooms on Black

Happy Hump Day!!!  I hope you’ve been enjoying and  following my Fall Fashion series in collaboration with Cassie from Style Cassentials.

We’re discussing fall trends this week – if you missed any of my previous posts, you can check them out here, here and here.

Today we are talking about Blooms on Black!

Profs II-07

I haven’t always been a big fan of florals, but this Fall, I’m starting to re-think this….considering we’re only at Hump Day Wednesday with this special blog series, and I’ve already worn blooms-on-black twice!  (Click here to see how I incorporated florals with leather earlier this week.)

Profs II-06This Dorothy Perkins metallic floral top is adorable and feminine…perfect for evening or date night.

Profs II-08

I’m really feeling gold this Fall … in accessories like watches, bangles, necklaces, earrings.  Get yourself some GOLD friends!

Profs II-11

In an effort to really play up the gold elements of this top, I paired it with a simple black pencil skirt and my giant pearl necklace…

Profs II-12…keeping my purse and shoes simple matte black.

The back of this top is really the showstopper – don’t you think? 🙂  Dorothy Perkins – A UK company that sells some really beautiful, classic plus size pieces that are high quality and that you are sure to have in your wardrobe for years to come. Many of the items are wardrobe staples. Excellent quality and they sell Canadian sizes 14-18, as well as straight sizes.  Lucky for me The Hudson Bay Co. carry her line and I got to scoop up this fab top without online hassles!

Profs II-13

How I Got The Look:

Floral ivory & metallic toned top from Dorothy Perkins; black pencil skirt from Old Navy; open toed pumps from Diesel; Giant pearls from Your Big Sister’s Closet;  vintage bracelets from Toronto Vintage Clothing Show; black purse gifted

Profs II-10

How cute is Cassie in this terrific felt hat!?  The blue hues with yellow blooms on black in this dress is just lovely.  Plus those amazing gold earrings….Love. It!

Head over to Style Cassentials for all the details on how Cassie has styled the trends.

Fall Double Feature: Modern Monochrome

I hope you’ve been enjoying and following my Fall Double Feature series in collaboration with Cassie from Style Cassentials.   We’re discussing fall trends all week long.  If  you missed any of my previous posts, you can check them out here and here.

Today we are talking about Black n’ White aka Modern Monochrome: The Classic Combo!Proofs-11
When you’re done reading my post, head on over to Style Cassentials or catch up with her on Facebook for all the details on how Cassie is styling the trends. 🙂

You really can’t go wrong when you rock a classic like black n’ white together.  This is the first crop top I’ve ever been brave enough to wear.  Waddya think?

Proofs-13

I actually wore this exact look for New Year’s Eve this past year…minus the open-toed booties.  Swapped them for black stockings and my rocker boots instead, to better suit winter weather.

Proofs-12

How I Got The Look:

Skirt and crop top from Forever21+; open-toed booties and burgundy glossy clutch from Aldo; Odetta Cuff and Medina bib from Stella & Dot

Proofs-14 What do you think about this look?  How are you going to be rocking the classic black n’ white trend this Fall?  Tell me in the comments section…

Looks like Cassie and I are pulling a twinsy-tuesday with the open-toed booties in both of our Modern Monochrome outfits 🙂  I adore all of Cassie’s jewellery and accessory choices in her look below, don’t you?

Fall Double Feature: Sweater Glamour

I hope you’ve been following my series in collaboration with Cassie from Style-Cassentials.   We’re discussing fall trends this week – if you missed any of my previous posts from this special Double Feature, you can check them out here.

Today we are talking about cozy, comfy, cuddly Sweater Glamour!

Proofs-15

Last year, I ended up buying a few sweater dresses  during end-of-season sales, so I never really got a chance to maximize wearing them.  They are PERFECT for the Fall …

Proofs-16

What I love best about them is the fact that they are warm enough to allow you to leave home without a proper jacket.  I picked up this red caplet from Jack Lux vintage and costume pop-up shop on West Queen West.  (A few of my Toronto Vintage Society sisters have been styling their window mannequins over the last few months, click here to read all about that).  Adding this bright pop of colour really helps break up the taupes and browns of this outfit.

Proofs-17 How I Got The Look:  Snake print sweater dress from Old Navy; red caplet from Jack Lux vintage; brown leather purse from a vintage pop-up sale in The Juncton (small bowler bag from Guess); brown suède booties and double drop pearl earrings Reitmans and mother of pearl ring from my travels in Jaipur, India.

Proofs-18I’m really digging  this oversized poncho-esk sweater Cassie is rocking.  And that fringed purse…**swoon**.  Head over to Style-Cassentials for all the details on how Cassie has styled the trend.  Or check her out on Facebook here.

Fall Double Feature: Loving Leather

Ok folks ….. This week we say farewell to summer and officially move into FALL!

Today, I’m excited to start a new Fall series. This “double feature” is a collaboration with fellow petite plus blogger, Cassie from Style Cassentials.

Cassie describes her style as modern classics with a little dark or edgy glamour.   I prefer classic, feminine, and sophisticated pieces.  Together, we will be exploring and putting our own twists on several fall trends…all week long!

Today, we are talking LEATHER!

Proofs-02

There is just something so sexy and simple about black leather.  For me I like mixing leather on leather it with lighter, sheer fabrics to give the look a more feminine and sophisticated vibe.

Proofs-03Stepping into the blue with my silver toed blue pumps, from Reitmans.  I’m really feeling the cobalt cool hues for Fall too.  I think incorporating pops of this hit of colour via accessories, purses and shoes are a good move over the next few months 🙂

LKP Fall2014How I Got The Look:

Sheer floral top from Macey’s; leather calf leggings from Forever21+; Leather & suede jacket from Sears; black studded clutch from Ardene; silver toed blue pumps from Reitmans

Proofs-04What are your thoughts? How would you incorporate leather into your Fall looks?  Use the comments section below…

Cassie is rocking a fit-and-flare leather skirt for an evening or date night Fall look.  Head over to Style-Cassentials for all the details on how Cassie has styled the trend.  Or check her out on Facebook here.

The Very Inspiring Blogger Award

Last month I was nominated for the Very Inspiring Blogger Award.  Thank you so much Jacquie, founder & curator of the Toronto Vintage Society,  for the kudos and recognition friend.  I’m oh-so thrilled to know that the wee space I’ve carved out for myself in the blogosphere is actually being read, let alone being deemed as ‘inspiring’ and award-winning.   I am truly humbled.  Thank you 🙂

very-inspiring-blog-award_zps19a927bfUpon receiving this blog award, I must now share seven random facts about myself – dems da rules.  So here I go…

FACT #1:  Repeat.  Play.

Sometimes I’ll discover/rediscover a song, and I will replay it – on repeat – for countless hours on end.  Annoying, maybe. But I can’t help it.  There are a few songs that are hauntingly beautiful.  So beautiful, that listening to it once is just not enough.  They NEED to be played and listened to over and over for hours…to truly be heard.  Tracks that have this quality who have been on my constant repeat loop recently are:

FACT #2: I cannotgirl-swim swim

Yup.  I never learnt how and am somewhat afraid of the water.  When I was little my Pops took me to the public pool and gave me one simple instruction:  sit on the towel and wait for him to return from a lap.  Naturally seeing him dive in so easily, I guess I figured I could too …
He returned to find me being revived by a young lifeguard.  Needless to say we returned home where my mom gave him all kinds of sh!t.  To this day whenever I feel water in my ears, I freak out just a bit.  Now, this hasn’t stopped me from enjoying pools and oceans whist on vacay.  I’m an excellent wader and have mad noodle-floating-skills.  I’ve signed up for “learn to swim” workshops a few times at local community centres …however, the adult sessions have always gotten cancelled due to lack of interest & signups…and there is no way I’m going to join the 14-year-olds in the youth sessions.  Nope.  Not.  Gonna.  Happen.

FACT #3:  Facebook Game Addict

You know those annoying Facebook alerts you get cuz someone is asking for lives for some silly online game to unlock that next level …. well, friends…..that’s me.  I’m that girl.  I’m the one playing those kinda games.   Candy Crush.   Farm Hero.  Scrabble.  Words With Friends.  And my newest obsession: Cookie Crunch. This addiction has gotten so bad that for a little while I would wake up in the middle of the night to see if my ‘lives’ have been restored, so I could play some more.  Gotta get to that next level.  I just gotta.  Sick right?  I know.  Shameful, guilty pleasures of my life.

unnamed unnamed-2 scrabble-game-help.w654 candy-crush-saga

FACT #4:  I love punny jokes!  (Ha!  See what I did there…yup! I’m hilarious!)

Shameful, but true.  Those “dad jokes” that most groan at…. I love-love-love oh-so-very much!  Dunno what it is….but puns are great!  Not sure when I became so nerdy with my love of corny jokes.  I blame my day job.  As a corporate trainer, I’ve got to build and keep rapport quickly and throughout the day, usually with a bunch of strangers I’ll only ever engage with during said training session.  Sometimes I’m soooooo engaging as a facilitator that participants choose NOT to leave the room at designated breaks and lunchtime, leaving me to make chitchat conversation for a full 30-mins+.  Talk about pressure!  But with an arsenal of clean, cheesy, PUNNY jokes up my sleeve…I manage to fill the void of silence and get a chuckle or two out of nearly everyone.  Pitty laughs totally count! After all, it’s all in the delivery – and yes, I’m well aware of the fact that there’s more to being funny than just funny looking.  BA-DUM-BUMP!  I’m here all week folks! Try the veal! Tip your servers! 🙂
IMG_4457

FACT #5:  Toastmasters

Believe it or not, I was shy.  Shocking, I know 🙂  Standing in front of people to give a presentation made me sick to my stomach in grade school.  Public speaking was still very difficult for me in high school, and in college my courage to present in front of groups of people only increased slightly.  I remember asking my then boyfriend to leave the classroom, so that I wouldn’t have to look out and see him among the faces in the room staring back.  In hindsight, having a smiling, supportive face there would have totally been a comfort … but what did I know, I was young and dumb.  It wasn’t until I left school and began working full-time where I really began to be comfortable and confident in front of my peers and colleagues.  I was an Executive Assistant reporting to a boss who gave me the opportunity to be seen and heard from more, I decided to needed to beef up my comfort level with public speaking. That’s when I joined Ryerson’s Toastmasters.
Toastmasters is a learn-by-doing workshop in which participants hone their speaking and leadership skills in a no-pressure atmosphere.  There is no instructor in a Toastmasters meeting. Instead, members evaluate one another’s presentations. This feedback process is a key part of the program’s success.  Meeting participants also give impromptu talks on assigned topics, conduct meetings and develop skills related to timekeeping and avoiding filler-words like “ummm”.  I highly recommend finding a Toastmaster chapter that works for you, if you’re looking to build your self confidence and/or to get more comfortable speaking to groups of strangers –  I am proof it works!  And now speaking to groups of strangers regularly is what I do for a living.   Cra-cra huh? 🙂
 join-toastmasters-practice-public-speaking

FACT #6:  Sunflowers scare me!

There it is folks.  I have an irrational fear of Sunflowers.  I’ve been known to cross over to the other side of the street if I see a patch of these freighting blooms in someones yard all bunched creepily together.  Even worse – are those SINGLE GIANT BLOOMS.  eeeep!!!  Particularly those ones with the dark centres and the pointy petals. {shiver}
IMG_1357

FACT #7: Perfect 4.0 GPA

Remember those purple “Participation” ribbons they would give  out during track and field?  Yup … those were the ONLY ones I’d ever win, ever.  All those school achievements – I never won a damn thing.  I wasn’t particularly athletic and I wasn’t a ‘gifted’ student, so the typical awards to be won just weren’t in the cards for me.  I’d have to bust my ass twice as hard as everyone else, it seemed, to even make it on the honour roll.  The highest I ever got was 3rd on that list one semester in high school. Certainly not award worthy.  Sigh…
Since my folks didn’t have the money to send me to university, instead of staying for OAC (grade 13), I found myself the only 17-year old sitting in my college classes. I completed that 3-year program top of my class, winning the scholarship award for being able to maintain a perfect 4.0 GPA throughout the program.  That was the first award I’ve ever won!  Seems not being able to join all my friends in the pub, as I was just wee… wasn’t all that bad a thing after all. 😉

Ok.  There you have it friends.  7 random facts about moi.
It’s time for me to pay-it-forward.  As its name implies, this particular blog award is intended to be passed along to individuals and their blogs who inspire you in some capacity time and time again.   Since this describes every last one of the blogs I follow (I likely wouldn’t be following them in the first place if they didn’t!), I’m nominating the following:
Should blog awards not exactly be your favourite thing, not to worry, you are under zero obligation to play along. These kinds of posts are intended to be nothing but lighthearted fun, and should they not feel that way to you, by all means bow out of taking part in this one. I adore blog awards, but fully understand that not everyone does.
If you would like to take part, then here are the rules:
  1. Whip up a post of your own about receiving The Very Inspiring Blogger Award in which you link back to this post, thanking the lovely someone for nominating you (aka…MOI) and then
  2. Share seven random facts about yourself, and lastly…
  3. Bestow the award on a few whose sites you find to be a continual source of inspiration.
Happy blogging. xo
