Summer Bra-blems Solved: Broad Lingerie [3/3]

Boobies come in a set.  Generally speaking.

So, naturally there needed to be another Broad Lingerie solution post to round out this Summer Bra-blems Solved mini-series.  See what I did there 😛 …

Hooter Holders.  Titty Cage. Chest Baskets. Flopper Stopper. Boobie Traps.

Whatever you call them, the Bra is an essential item in a woman’s closet and a critical element to making any outfit look exceptional!

But if you’re a busty, full-figured gal, find options that are comfortable, affordable and pretty just isn’t easily done.  Now, add the extra complexity of wearing those cute Summer outfits to the burden of the rack.

BEFORE

Like this one!  I basically live in dresses like this all Summer long.

Simple, light, and NOT black!  That’s my go-to Summer look 🙂

Since bra manufacturing, and the fashion industry for that matter, hasn’t fully realized that “nude” isn’t exactly nude to all skin tones …

Wearing a black bra is the only available colour that does its best to appear invisible against my skin when wearing light/white tops.

THE SOLUTION

The Plunge/Convertible Bijou Bra by Elomi

DSC03635

How sweet are these pink ribbons with black polka-dots. ❤

Plus pink stitching details at the side of the cups … just so pretty. ❤

AFTER

Tah-dah!  Criss-cross action of this bra underneath this thin cotton dress makes everything better!

Yes, there’s bit of a peek-a-strap … but its a huge improvement over what I was wearing.

Added bonus of this Plunge/Convertible Bijou Bra was its smoothing factor.

This just might be the perfect T-shirt bra!!  What do you think?

Summer Bra-blems Solved: Broad Lingerie [2/3]

The Summer weather is here!

And you know what that means – beautiful Summer dresses with difficult necklines for a bra to work with.

Le sigh…

As If it wasn’t already oh-so-dififcult finding bras that fit larger chests properly + pretty + affordable.  But Summer brings with it a whole other set of bra-blems!!!

8c1dcb70-1761-0132-084e-0eae5eefacd9This week on the blog we’ve got a mini-series dedicated to specific Summer Bra-blems I’ve experienced and showing you how Broad Lingerie found me a solution, making that Summer outfit even more Wow + Wearable this time around 😉

BEFORE

Here I am… last Summer I found this adorable halter-neck dress, one that I’ve been coveting on my Pinterest closet for months and suddenly found it on a sale rack in a shop here in Toronto!!!

IMG_8432

It got me.  Hook, Line and Sinker … Click here for that original post for frock deets.

Sadly it was a bit too small to button over my ta-tas.  But I loved it anyways and came up with the following way to wear it in public. :p

My tank-top solution worked out well to cover up the gap in the front, buuuut the giant black bra straps and tank straps view from the back isn’t so cute. :/

THE SOLUTION

Smoothing Strapless/Halter Bra by Elomi

AFTER

Strapless bras are always a challenge when it comes to a good fit and the stay-in-place factor, especially if you’re blessed-in-the-chest.

There was some gaping with this bra, but once the hater strap was attached the fit of Elomi’s strapless bra was much improved.

What do you think of Broad Lingerie’s solution to my bra-blem for this summer outfit?

Tell me about your thoughts in the comment section below.

And stay tuned later this week for another Summer Bra-blem Solved post 😉

Broad Lingerie [1/3]

With the weather warming up at hyper-speeds in Toronto and the CAD $ yet to improve, my need for finding over-the-shoulder-boulder-holders WITHOUT cross-boarder shopping was becoming an urgent priority. :/melons-jpeg

At the beginning of May, on the heels of me posting a Boobs & Bra-related rant post – click here for that –  She Does The City, an online ‘imperfect life guide for women” announced that there was a new lingerie boutique that had opened in Toronto specifically for those blessed in the chest!!!

❤ ❤ ❤

Could it be?  Have the stars and straps really aligned?  Could all my bra-blems be solved with the arrival of this much-needed local shop?

Only one way to find out! 😉

Broad Lingerie is a store dedicated to women who wear cup sizes DD and above.  Our aim is to make bras and swimwear accessible to fuller busted women by offering a smarty curated selection of basic and fashion styles sold at affordable pricing in a welcoming atmosphere.

DSC03591

What really struck me about this shop was the fact that those larger bra sizes that I was on the hunt weren’t all hidden in a backroom requiring a special request before they could be seen. 😮

Nope.  They were just hanging out there with all the rest of ’em… in all their glory awaiting to be perused, touched and even tried on without anyone’s assistance.

A shocking, yet refreshing approach rarely seen in my bra-shopping experience.

DSC03593

Fellow blogger and friend, Stef, did a great write-up of her experience with Broad Lingerie upon their store opening.

Checkout SassyPlus’ review of the shop here 🙂

Sam, the shop owner, provided me with a proper bra fitting, since every brand fits a little different.

Together we selected TWO new Boobie-Traps (ha!) to solve my biggest bra-related irritants:

1. the “back band ride-up” and 2. the “quad-boob + underwire poke” combo!

Stay tuned for a special Summer Outfit Bra-blem Solved series THIS  week where I’ll be featuring the Broad Lingerie fixes for some of those “difficult summer necklines”! 😉

Buyer Beware: Freddana Flats/Huarache Sandals

Remember Huarache Sandals?

Kind of big thing in the 90s … I remember owning a great pair as a teen.

They were kind of boring flats with perfectly shiny, leather crosshatching.  Well, they seem to be back as a perfect summer alternative and ultra-trendy. 🙂

Screen Shot 2016-05-26 at 5.23.28 PM

So you can imagine my excitement when I saw these bad boys in the sale category on the Aldo Shoes site!!!!

For a mere $19 … these gold leather, rubber soled slip-ons with peep-toe seemed meant for me.

I ordered my usual 8.5 size and then patiently awaited their arrival.
FREDDANA_82_RG
Are they lovely? Freddana sandal from Aldo Shoes

Beware!!! Don’t let their good looks fool you friends!  They are a VERY Narrow Fit!!!!

I realised how painful they are after I wore them once. They gave me blister on the back of my foot cause the hard inner material of the shoe rubbed roughly against the skin of my Achilles heel.
My feet are STILL recovering :/

This has been a public service announcement.  Highly recommend sizing up or steering clear of these.

Cutwork & Geometric

Bah!  Toronto weather can’t seem to make up its mind.

Luckily this past long weekend was glorious sunny, warm weather with cool, comfortable evening temps too!

I’m a simple girl, with simple needs.  So finding outfits that are wash-n-wear and don’t require too much planning to look polished are for me. 😉

This is why this thin tank strapped dress I picked up from Old Navy has become my go-to frock this past month.

unspecified-17

When I found this scarf, I really liked the geometric pattern in simple black and white.

But…. It was way more than just a scarf.  It was a bolero type cover up!!!

How perfect for keeping on hand in a purse for those chilly spring & summer nights to come.

unspecified-12

Looking at this dress online didn’t really do it justice.  A simple scoop neck with decorative four-button buttons, and thin tank straps (that are adjustable).

But if you look closer….. the simple-ness is a big contrast to the cutwork detail at the flouncy hem of this lightly lined dress.

Spring Double Feature: Bolder Shoulders

How much have you been enjoying this week’s posts friends?  Has it given you some inspirations … that you’re gonna try this Spring? Hope so! 🙂

All week long, Cassie from Style Cassentials, and I have been putting our own twists on several Spring trends.

And to end the week and our collaborative series… today we’re talking about…

Spring Trend:  Bolder Shoulders

unspecified-16I’ve said it earlier, and I’m saying it again:  I have not been wow’d by retailers this Spring. :/

Not enough to be spending my hard-earned Canadian Dollars with the exchange rate being so pitiful.

But when I saw THIS off-the-shoulder number from SmartGlamour … and I was a goner! ❤

Smart Glamour’s Marilyn Convertible Dress…is all kinds of YES!

Note: this floral print is now sold out – but there are two other prints available + tons of solids +  new jersey prints for Summer too!Petite Plus, Meow! for Smart Glamour

The pattern of this coral floral is just swoon-worthy ❤ ❤ ❤ Totally wearable in the Spring AND Summer months.

AND it can be worn 3 Different ways!!!

  1. The ruffle is attached at the front & back so it can be worn with one up/one down for a tropical look
  2. The ruffle can be worn around your arms for an off-the-shoulder look, and
  3. The ruffle can be worn as a tube dress

Untitled

Um, so that’s basically 3 whole different dresses wrapped into 1 gorgeous, rich fabric! ❤

What’s great about SmartGlamour clothes is that (for a small fee) you an customize your order to YOUR measurements and have your pieces fit you perfectly!smart glamour petite plus meow!

That’s what I did.  I also asked that the length of the skirt stop just at my knee to show off my gams 😉

AND cuz of its body con fit … you can wear it under a full skirt, and get 3 MORE different looks outta this dress!!!

Petite Plus, Meow

It was a super windy (and cold) Spring day for this photoshoot…but the amazing Rebecca Northcott still managed to make the weather work for her to capture these fabu shots!

Spring Double Feature: Citron Chartreuse

We’re in the homestretch of this weeks’ special Spring Double Feature with Cassie from Style Cassentials.

Together, we’ve been exploring and putting our own twists on several Spring trends.

And today we’re talking about…

Spring Trend: Citron Chartreuse  unspecified-2
Is  chartreuse a yellow or a green?

I love both of these colours equally, as they both look fantastic with my skin tone.  After a bit of research, it turns out that chartreuse is about halfway between the two.

So, when you’re looking for a chartreuse-lime top, half of the time, you’ll find it in a search for yellow and half the time you’ll find it in a search for green.
unspecified-5

I am loving the bright, tropical, greenish yellow hue.

I started seeing a bit of this last summer…but in my shopping efforts to get ready for this Spring Collaboration I’ve been seeing this trend everywhere!!!

unspecified-4

Even if yellow-green isn’t quite your thing as a colour to wear ….

Simply adding an accessory or two (I’m talking a handbag, a scarf, a belt, a pair of gloves) in a cheerful yellow, or a tropical green will really give your springtime outfit that edgy warmth.  While allowing you to dip your baby toe in for this seasonal trend. 😉

Spring Double Feature: Stripe Storm

Happy Hump Day!!!

EVERYDAY THIS WEEK  Cassie from Style Cassentials and I are exploring and putting our own twists on several Spring trends!

Today’s Spring Trend:  Stripe Storm

Be they Horizontal, Vertical, Asymmetrical …

Every which way there is a stripe storm ahead for Spring and Summer this year!!!

unspecified-3

This stripped linen dress is lightly lined, with vertical and horizontal stripes AND buttons all down the front could possibly be the trifecta of plus-sized *DON’TS* according to “Style Rules” for the Curvy/Plus/Full-Figured/Fat Babe that some people out there subscribe to.

unspecified-4

I have been on the hunt for the last few months and nothing has really woo’ed me enough to spend my hard-earned money on.

But Old Navy has really stepped up their game this season…and I’ve found lots of luck in their straight sizes.

Just look at it!!!  It’s fantastic!!! 🙂

unspecified-5
I couldn’t help myself – this Boho/70s/cowgirl western vibe isn’t for everyone. But I’m a fan!!! ❤

Fringe was also a big trend at New York’s Fashion Week (Spring 2016)!!!  And I don’t just mean accessories.  These stylishly-slashed-edges are lining skirts, dresses and jackets in addition to bags, shoes and earrings that started appearing everywhere last Fall..

Yes, any way you slice it, fringe is in.

I kinda boarded this fringe-train this past Fall, introducing just little elements of it … like purses +tassels.  But knowing that this trend is gonna be everywhere this Spring, I was on the hunt to find that perfect piece that suits my vibe.

And then I found this brown suede vest….and was finally able to introduce the shredded hemlines into an outfit! 😀

unspecified-6
How I Got The Look:  Fringed suede vest, Winners; Stripped dress, Old Navy; Hat, Reitmans; Bracelets, Forever21; Platform sandals and Toupe booties, NineWest; Blown-glass necklace, old.

Cassie went for colourful stripes and a sweet off-the-shoulder black top.  Adorbz!

Spring Double Feature: Fetching Florals

Our special Spring Trends Double Feature continues with fellow petite plus blogger, Cassie from Style Cassentials.

Today we’re talking about Fetching Florals.

Rebecca Northcott Photography

“Florals for Spring.  How original.” – Miranda Presley, The Devil Wears Prada

This is not a new trend, I know.  But the truth is be I *don’t* actually have many floral pieces in my wardrobe.

I have really been struggling to find a spring outfit to fit this theme … that I actually wanna wear.

And then I found this!!!!

unspecified

I’ve been longing to find the perfect pastel to grace my spring wear.

When I found this wide leg culotte pant jumpsuit in this great pantone custard + floral pattern … I was nervous when I added it to my cart without trying it on.

Plus size onesies aren’t always magical :/ (Click here  and here and here for more on my thoughts on jumpsuits).

Petite Plus, Meow

But the colour, a soft lime custard. ❤  The floral print in lovely pastel colours. ❤

Just look at that sweet little keyhole with button closure in back! ❤  The slant pockets! ❤

And the fabric…. oh-so soft and lightweight rayon, super easy to wear into the Summer months too. ❤ ❤ ❤

unspecified-6

The elasticized waist with drawstring tie, helps give me a nice cinched-in look.

I wasn’t sure about the loose, wide cropped leg look on my frame …but I’m so glad that I didn’t let that keep me away. 🙂

Since I’m petite (short), it hits me a bit past mid-calf mark…so maybe I’ll get this hemmed a bit

unspecified-5

Where did I find this V-Neck Jumpsuit that fits all of my ample top and bottom halves? 😮

Old eff’ing Navy!!

They are just killing it this season with their pieces!

And when I checked out online, I got 41% off + FREE shipping! #winning    Affordable, trendy, good-looking Spring fashion.

You Can’t Go Wrong!!

How I Got The Look: Floral jumpsuit, Old Navy; Jelly shoes from my Malaysia trip last year; Sandals + flower clips from Aldo; Aviator sunnies from some shop on WQW

unspecified-2 unspecified-3

Cassie is wearing this large floral print two-piece.  Love how the turquoise and pink pops against the black.
